BSC Fall To League Leaders

Edinburgh City 2 – 0 BSC Glasgow :: Meadowbank Stadium :: Saturday 27th February 2016

Two second half goals condemned BSC Glasgow to a defeat at the hands of last season’s Lowland League champions Edinburgh City.

Mark Adams’ made only one change from Wednesday’s win over Whitehill Welfare, with Riccardo Corrieri awarded for his impactful half hour off the bench with a start. Arnault Bembo and Stephen Bronsky started in the heart of defence, with Aiden Ferris occupying the lone striker role.

Aaron Dunsmore had two good bits of play down the right hand side cleared by good defensive efforts as the home side came out attacking. Striker Ross Allum also had shots from distance go over the bar as the game started at a fast pace at Meadowbank.

Ferris came closest for BSC in the first half, a long through ball forcing goalkeeper Andrew Stobie into a rushed clearance.  Grant Dickie and Corrieri had shots from distance go wide, with both midfields working well with the ball.

At the other end, Allum saw his shot cleared off the line by the well placed Callum Home after a nice piece of dribbling. As half time rapidly approached with the game still even, the striker, played through by a lofted through ball,  attempted a chip over Derick Moore but it was easy for the Glasgow keeper.

BSC had the ball in the net after an excellent start to the second half, but Bembo was given offside from Michael Tuohy’s free kick. The away side reacted, as captain Dougie Gair led the counter attack. His shot from the right side of the box  looked like it had crept in at the near post, but actually came off the side netting.

It was only minutes later when City took the lead. On the hour mark, Ross Guthrie swung in a corner from the left, it made it all the way to the back post and found Dunsmore, who smashed it into the roof of the net.

Some good play from BSC going forward won them a corner with 15 minutes remaining, but it was well cleared by the home team at the near post.

The Lowland League leaders made sure of the three points with ten minutes remaining. A defensive mix up allowed Allum in, who fired an excellent strike from the edge of the area to finally get his goal. City then saw the game out well, not allowing BSC the chance to make it a nervous final few minutes.

Adams’ and his players will have the chance to immediately bounce back against Spartans this Wednesday at Lochburn Park. This sides met in September, with BSC defeated by a narrow loss, with Home getting the goal for Glasgow that day.
