MATCH REPORT :: FERRIS IS A THORN IN THEIR SIDES
BSC GLASGOW 5 THORN ATHLETIC 1 :: Saturday 4th July, 2015 :: Friendly Match
Scorers: Ferris (2), Home, Connolly, Lawrence
AIDAN FERRIS marked his return to BSC colours with a double as the SFA Challenge Cup winners eased back into action with a friendly win at Scotstoun on Saturday.
The former Morton striker – now back at the club on a two-year deal after sparkling on loan last season – struck twice with debut strikers Aaron Connolly and David Lawrence and skipper for the day Callum Home also on target.
It was a great run-out for the team who are still missing a host of players on holiday.
That gave the chance of top team debuts to a trio of players from the new Under-20s side coached by Mark Adams and keeper Joe Wilton, defender Ross Geddes and midfielder Riccardo Corrieri all acquitted themselves well.
BSC fell behind to a superb strike from Thorn’s striker but drew level when the keeper spilled a dangerous Drew Ramsay cross and Ferris fed on the scraps.
They then snatched the lead before the break when a corner from former Morecambe midfielder Tom Woods found the head of Home and he bulleted into the roof of the net.
The capture of Connolly from Ayrshire junior giants Glenafton was a major summer boost for BSC and he showed his goalscoring prowess in the second-half with a magnificent curling free-kick from the edge of the box.
A rejuvenated Chris McDougall had bounced off the bench at the break and he terrorised the Thorn defence in the second period.
First he linked well with ex-Aberdeen University striker David Lawrence who coolly notched the fourth then Dougs brilliantly combined with Ferris who grabbed his double.
BSC assistant-manager Craig Young said: “That was a really satisfactory outing and we played some sweet football at times.
“The Under-20s boys blended into the team excellently and young Joe Wilton in goal did himself proud.
“We know Tuesday night against Morton will be a wholly different affair but our games against Thorn are now an annual affair and there are always great tests for us.”
