A dominant first half of football from BSC Glasgow was more than enough to secure a vital three points and some very special goals sees us go into the weekend joint top of the Lowland League table.

Only two changes to the starting eleven – Declan Hughes and Jamie Hamilton returned replacing Ross Lyon and Alfie Agyeman.

Right out the gate, BSC Glasgow controlled possession. Only three minutes in, there were strong appeals for a penalty as Ryan Tierney went down under a challenge from a Colts defender. Despite cries from every yellow shirt and an onslaught from the BSC bench, the official played on.

Less than ten minutes later, the earlier appeal was forgotten as Ryan Tierney was challenged in the box again but this time, the referee pointed straight to the spot. The returning Declan Hughes stepped up and sent Jonathan Grier the wrong way to open the scoring.

From then on, the goals just kept coming and let me tell you, they only got better. In the 18th minute, a great run from Darren Christie allowed a pass to an unmarked Lewis Bell who struck a curling cross and found Ryan Tierney for a smooth-as-you-like header to hit the back of the net.

If you weren’t sufficiently entertained then Andy Geggan had you covered – just before the half hour, a corner from Hughes found Geggan all alone and the midfielder smashed home a spectacular volley giving Ross Smith’s stunner from last season a run for its money.

After the succession of strikes, BSC were able to take the sting out the game a bit and just enjoy possession, however when a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box, they couldn’t resist. Declan Hughes floated in a high cross and it was Captain Jamie McCormack there to float well above the Colts defence and head it home from close range.

At the half time, Conor McBrearty replaced Andy Geggan. Now, it might’ve been with the overall excitement of the first half but as the second half commenced, it seemed that the game had lost its flair with very few chances coming for either side.

Good runs from Darren Christie, Jamie Mills and Conor McBrearty showed spells of promise but neither could really get the ball away from their feet to create an optimum opportunity for the elusive fifth goal.

Jamie Hamilton found himself in the book after a tug on a Colts player, while Ross Lindsay replaced Ryan Tierney. The biggest chance of the second half came through Hamilton and Mills – a nice reverse pass found Mills on the left flank with plenty of space but Jonathan Grier done well to prevent the strike and keep the score at 4-0.

Jamie Ballantyne got a run out in the 88th minute replacing Jamie McCormack but by then the scoresheet was already settled thanks to a pitch perfect first half performance from BSC Glasgow.
