It’s the defending champions and massive league rivals, The Spartans that make the travel from Edinburgh to Alloa this weekend in a massive fixture for either side.
The Ainslie Park men will come in a tad more refreshed than our boys in yellow as they had a week off last weekend while we played a South Challenge Cup tie against Bonnyrigg Rose – a 3-1 defeat that we must bounce back from.
Dougie Samuels’ side are looking to improve on their last league outing which saw them take a point against the league leaders, Kelty Hearts. You could argue that Spartans were the better side in that match-up; with Kelty’s only goal coming from a converted penalty.
Their fixture before was also a draw when they hosted Edusport Academy. BSC will need to factor this in as we look to catch Spartans off their game and grab a massive victory which would take us above them in the GeoSonic Lowland League table.
Manager Stephen Swift will be referring back to last season when we took an early season victory against the North Edinburgh side that proved we were going to be title contenders (at least until that away match at Civil Service Strollers).
There are numerous (300? Lazy…) players in The Spartans’ ranks Swifty must prepare the boys for; Jamie Dishington, Jack Smith and Jason Stevens come to mind as three players all with three goals apiece. In contrast to other teams, including ourselves, the reigning Lowland League champions have no sole top scorer but rather have threats coming from all over the pitch.
Taking three points from them would see BSC jump up one to third place, an ideal position to be at this point in the season with the team looking to launch a title tilt, and would help us go into future fixtures, including our huge Scottish Cup tie against Forfar Athletic, with our heads held high.
