It’s arguably one of the biggest games of the season as we make our first outing in this season’s Scottish Cup making the trip to Dundee to face Junior side Lochee United.
Entering at the Second Round thanks to last season’s league position, we’ll surely be looking back to last year’s Scottish Cup when we progressed into the Third Round for the first time in our history.
We had a first round bye for different reasons last time around and went straight into a second round away tie against Cumbernauld Colts. That 4-1 victory set up a third round match with League One outfit, Forfar Athletic. Despite an impressive fight, the Loons broke through and grabbed two goals in the final twenty minutes.
This year’s opponents are a different breed altogether. Lochee currently sit third in the East Region North Superleague and are so far undefeated at home having suffered their only two defeats away. Their last league outing was a 2-1 victory over 4th place Scone Thistle and last weekend while we were taking on Gala Fairydean Rovers in the South Challenge Cup, Lochee were doing the same in the Quest Engineering Cup hammering Dundee Violet 4-0.
Lochee made history in their only other entry into the Scottish Cup way back in 2008. Not only were they the first ever Dundee-based Junior team to qualify for the Cup. They then caused an upset at their own turf in round two by defeating the Highland League’s Buckie Thistle 3-0. The third round gifted them a huge fixture against Ayr United. Again, going against the odds, they forced a replay after forcing Ayr to a 1-1 draw.
The replay went in Ayr’s favour this time round as they won 3-1.
